Aftercare advice & products

The golden rule of successful tattoo healing is 'less is more'. Please buy these things prior to your appointment, and follow the steps:

- Kitchen roll ('Plenty' is the best brand)
- Sanex 0% shower gel for sensitive skin
- Aquaphor 'Healing skin balm' (the brand is called Eucerin, and you can buy the balm at boots or Amazon)

Tattoo Aftercare Instructions — Follow Exactly

Washing:
Once you remove the dressing I've applied, either the evening of the day of your appointment or the next morning (depending on what I told you), wash it gently once or twice a day using Sanex (or another gentle, fragrance-free cleanser). Use your clean hands — do not use a washcloth or sponge.

Drying:
Pat your tattoo carefully and lightly dry with kitchen roll or a clean paper towel. Do not rub or use fabric towels, dish cloths, or toilet roll.

Moisturising: Apply a very thin layer of Aquaphor — just enough to lightly cover the tattoo. If you’re unsure how much, always use less rather than more. Your tattoo should feel just barely creamed, almost dry.

Repeat:
Repeat washing, drying, and moisturising at least once daily for 7 days, ideally for up to 14 days or until healed.

Clothing:
During the first week, wear soft cotton clothes only, where the clothes have direct contact with the tattoo. Avoid anything tight, rough, or synthetic (like polyester).

Avoid:

No sun exposure — keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight while healing (that includes sun beds!)

No swimming — no salt water, no chlorinated pools.

No scratching or picking at your tattoo, even if it itches.

Avoid contact with irritants like perfumed or alcohol-containing shower gels, animal hair, animal saliva, mud, dirt, or rough fabrics.

Cleanliness:

Keep your tattoo clean at all times. This is the single most important step for fast, healthy healing.

I will explain everything clearly again at your appointment. If you ever forget, all instructions are available on my website.

Follow these steps carefully and your tattoo will heal beautifully.

Happy healing!
